A “Year of Living Dangerously” post appeared on my feed, decrying the taking down of the EPA’s Climate Change page.
My position, is a “climate change” skeptic, when it is interpreted as “the major cause of climate change is man-made pollution”.
Climate change is a FACT, otherwise we would be in an ice age. Man created climate change is a theorem at best, supported by a mathematical model that has predicted global cooling (70’s), then global warming now man-made climate change. Certainly man has some effect on climate, and reducing pollution is a good thing. I would also include thermal pollution in the mix, if we were to cease all man made generation of heat I am confident we would eventually see a change in climate, but a huge cost to our way of life.
The use of Models based on the Drake Equation or variation came to my attention when I read Michael Crichton’s Caltech Michelin Lecture.
He also did a great job of exposing consensus science in the epilogue of “State of Fear”. Eugenics was supported by:
- Teddy Roosevelt
- Helen Keller
- H.G Wells
- George Bernard Shaw
- Winston Churchill
- Francis Crick
- Alexander Graham Bell
Eugenics was widely accepted in the U.S. academic community. By 1928 there were 376 separate university courses in some of the United States’ leading schools, enrolling more than 20,000 students, which included eugenics in the curriculum.
I took a look at the EPA site and looked at Weather and Climate/Heavy Precipitation and found this:
Which cherry picks a subset of the data “where a much greater than normal portion of total annual precipitation has come from extreme single-day precipitation events.” I wonder what a plot of “where a much less than normal portion of total annual precipitation has come from extreme single-day precipitation events.” would look like.
They did also provided this figure, which seems to indicate that there was no significant correlation to total “Unusually High Annual Precipitation”. Nor is Unusually High Annual Precipitation significantly changing.
